Details
YB Green is a recycled glass jewelry line that responds to the overwhelming amount of wasted glass (i.e. beer bottles), and the recent termination of New Orleans glass recycling. We transform glass that would otherwise go to landfills, into unique and environmentally friendly accessories and art.
Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives
Why this project is being done:
YB Green is leading by example and educating our peers on the importance of recycling. While it is a dirty job, the results are beautiful and epitomize self-empowerment. YB Green is a quality and affordable jewelry line that teaches in every piece.
Who or what this project would impact:
We collected over 1000 bottles during five tablings at Sankofa Marketplace in the Lower 9th Ward. We continue to collect glass at a local bar and continue to train high school students on jewelry-making.
Project intends to address:
We are making an effort to do something about glass waste by creating beautiful arts, training students on this green job opportunity. We aim to fill a gap in the recovery process by limiting wasted glass while creating educational social enterprise.
Included or excluded:
YB Green ® was launched at the Essence Festival (July 09) with over 100 pieces of jewelry;2 high school students were trained on jewelry-making.
