The St. Claude Initiative seeks artists to participate in a large scale public mural project along St. Claude Avenue, in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward.

Details

Many of the businesses along St. Claude Avenue have yet to reopen. Prior to the storm, St. Claude Avenue was a vibrant commercial zone that served many residents' immediate needs. As a step towards reviving St. Claude Avenue, the St. Claude Initiative will undertake a large-scale construction and public art project. With your art, help us represent a recovered, vibrant, and sustainable St. Claude.

Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives

Why this project is being done:
By "re-imagining" St. Claude, the project will prompt those who see it to perceive potential where before they saw blight. The project will raise St. Claude's profile, making it easier to raise money in support of business recovery along St. Claude.
Who or what this project would impact:
By better securing buildings along the street and painting murals on the building of willing property owners, this project will tangibly improve the built environment along the Avenue.
Project intends to address:
The project is about more than making art: it will help St. Claude to recover.

Project Plan & Participants

Plan for implementing this project:
Contact us no later than Nov. 19th. On Nov. 22nd, you will present your proposal to a selection committee. You will be able to begin work on Dec. 8th, by which time all surfaces will be ready. You have until Dec 21st to complete your artwork.
