What is a "Community Project?"
A community project is one being done by an individual, a group of people, or an organization for the betterment of the community.
In the effort to rebuild New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, Transforma Projects noticed that there were many people around the city working on their own projects to revitalize the city. However, there was very little visibility for many of the projects and no central location where people could learn about such projects.
Our hope is this website can provide a central location for people to share information about their projects. Visitors can learn about projects going on around them, offer feedback and ultimately hopefully get involved in projects they are interested in.
We look forward to finding out more about what projects are being done in this community.
What happens when I register with the site; will I be bombarded with email?
Please see our Privacy Policy for complete details on how we will use information collected during the user registration process.
We will not bombard you with email. If you become an active participant on the site--submitting a project, commenting on other projects--you may get some email as a result of that.
The email you get from the website is minimal. For example, when you post a project you get an automated email confirming that you are now an administrator of that project.
Other email you get because of registering to the site depends on your user settings.
One of the goals of this website is to foster communication between people working on community projects. Therefore some default settings for new user accounts were selected to facilitate such communication.
After registering, if you post a project or a comment on the website we enable other registered users to send you a direct email through the website in response to something you post on the website.
Anonymous users of the website cannot send you email; the above feature is only available to other registered users of the website.
For example, if you post a project or comment on a project other registered users will see a 'Contact the author' link. Clicking it will take them to a web form that allows them to send a message to your email address. Your email address is not displayed on the website. Your personal information remains anonymous. You may disable this feature at any time.
Please be aware that other registered users may view your profile page. Your public profile page does not display your email address or any personal contact information. If you choose to upload a picture, it will be visible. Other users may also see a list of your posts from your profile page.
Other email you could get would be a result of monitoring a project. For more please see the topic on monitoring projects further below for more info.
Please note that these settings can be changed at any time. Simply go to your user account page and then click 'Settings' to review and change available settings.
What does "Monitoring" a project mean?
Monitoring a project makes it easy for you to keep up on projects of interest to you. When you monitor a project the following features become available to you:
- You can get an email whenever there are updates to the project on this website (this can be disabled on your account settings page)
- You may get email directly from the project manager.
- Shortcut links to your monitored projects appear on your user account page.
- A link to view recent posts in your monitored project will also appears on your user account page.
Once you begin monitoring a project you can manage the subscription options for each monitored project and turn monitoring off at any time from your user account page.
Okay, I posted information about my project, now what?
Thanks for sharing information about your project! We encourage you to keep your project information up to date and share news about the project. Here are some things you can do now that you posted your project.
At any time you may edit and change the information you posted about your project.
You may upload images and photos about your project. You are currently limited to 10MB of storage space for such files.
You may also post news items about your project.
If you want to get the word out about your project you can use your project's page on this site to help promote your project. Each project gets a custom friendly URL on the site. You can see this URL on the project page. Give the URL to others and they have a convenient place to look for info, news, and updates about your project.
You may want to check in on your project to see how many times it's been viewed or what comments have been left for you.
If other users are monitoring your project you can send them an email if you want; there will be a link to do so from your project page.
A direct link to your posted project(s) is on your user account page.
