Details

Ecos Latinos takes place in Louisiana at venues like City Park, Delgado College, Jefferson & Orleans Parish Public Schools, Borders Books, N.O. Jazz Festival, Ville St Marie Senior Home & Trinity Artists Series. Performances are videotaped to create tv documentaries about Hispanic artists, living or working in Louisiana, who work with students & local musicians to develop international exchanges.

Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives

Why this project is being done:
We hope, through the Ecos Latinos Series, to give another view of the richness and diversity of our Hispanic community. Since Hurricane Katrina destroyed large parts of New Orleans in 2005, we have seen a large influx of Hispanic workers & families.
Who or what this project would impact:
One of the goals of the Ecos Latinos Series is to present the positive aspects of Latino arts & culture to a wide audience. We have created a network throughout Latin America & Louisiana of artists who support each other's work.
Project intends to address:
This under-served Hispanic population is largely ignored by the media and often presented in negative stereotypes.

Project Timeline

Ecos Latinos has been an ongoing project since 1993.

Re: Ecos Latinos Series

Cano has worked with many other notable musicians including Bobby Ramos, Les Baxter, Jack Costanzo, Buddy Collette, and Tony Martinez. He was also first president of the Hispanic Musicians Association. He also recorded a slew of albums for various labels, including Reprise Records and RCA Records. He also explored Boogaloo and Tropical music. Even with real problems to deal with, some people just can't put the payday lending dispute on the backburner. South Carolina lawmakers decided to cancel the payday lending dispute altogether, by rejecting a bill capping payday loans to 25% of a borrowers' monthly income or $500 (lowest of the two). Consumer advocates hate it, as they want to see the practice of payday lending done away with altogether. Many of them would doubtless give all kinds of installment loans to end the payday lending dispute in their favor.
