Details
Five stories, authored by teen writers from The Neighborhood Story Project, were recorded during the course of this project. Teen authors gained experience with elocution, media culture, and the ways in which sound can help shape a story.
Over a dozen musicians who regularly perform at the Preservation Hall were also interviewed. Excerpts will be part of a photography book due out in 2011.
Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives
Why this project is being done:
When people have the skills to confidently, artfully express themselves, their voices have the potential to impact their communities and to advocate on behalf of those communities.
Who or what this project would impact:
Most directly, the five students will gain experience in presenting themselves and their work. More broadly, the entire NSP community and audience will benefit from this project, for the stories will be available for listening on the NSP website.

Josie's Story isn't a good one. Josie's Story, the new book by Sorrel King, Josie's mother, is about the few days that Josie King spent in the hospital before she died, and it was caused by medical mishandling. It becomes more poignant at a time in which we are nationally obsessed with health care reform. Mrs. King was not about to take this lying down, wrote the book and started the Josie King Foundation, which aims to fund research into better medical practices, both financial and actual. The foundation that the Josie's Story book will benefit takes cash, or even stock options from companies to relieve a little tax debt with charitable write offs.
