Artist and Professor, Ron Bechet worked with students at the Martin Luther King Elementary School, located in the Lower Ninth Ward and in collaboration with the school and other neighborhood organizations, such as NENA. The program encouraged students to express their sense of identity through working with clay.

Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives

Why this project is being done:
To establish a clay studio with kiln and potters wheels at MLK school, develop a community clay workshop, and lay the groundwork for an MLK ceramics booth at a local art market.
Who or what this project would impact:
Students of MLK Elementary School, Residents of the Lower Ninth Ward & Senior citizens of St. Mary of the Angels.
Project intends to address:
Long-term goals include the establishment of intergenerational projects centered on art and environmental sustainability. Including the development of a curriculum with Tulane/Xavier Center for Bio-Environmental Research to focus on Bayou Bienvenue.
