Details

Central City Artist Project is an artist residency program dedicated to bringing artists of various media from around the world to work in the Central City neighborhood in New Orleans. Professional visual artists, writers, composers and others apply for residencies that last from one to four months and afford the opportunity to complete a body of work that is informed by the community.

Project Scope: Vision, Aim, & Objectives

Why this project is being done:
Guided by the belief that every young person deserves access to the arts, we are currently working with Mahalia Jackson to coordinate workshops and lectures for the community.
Who or what this project would impact:
Our goal is to create a residency program in the heart of Central City, a populated, historic neighborhood struggling to overcome not just Hurricane Katrina’s destruction but also two long-standing community scourges - poverty and crime.
